Bill McGlaughlin

No matter what tradition you observe, winter holidays are celebrated around the world with music.  Bill starts in the 12th century, takes us through medieval Italy, evokes a Mexican Christmas, visits Paris and Polynesia, brings us a taste of jazz and even shares Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors.

Week of December 2, 2019 - Invitation to the Dance, Part II Five hours of music composed for the stage, opera, and ballet — or music composed for dramatic representations. We start with Jean-Baptiste Lully, an Italian-born French composer, instrumentalist, and as Bills says, “the most ‘dancingist’ composer who ever lived.” We’ll also focus on ballet music by Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Schubert and even Beethoven!

This month host Bill McGlaughlin takes us on a two-week exploration of some of the most legendary artistic partnerships in the history of classical music. (Week of Nov 11 and Nov 18)

In the first part of Wunderkinder - Musical Prodigies, we'll meet pianist Frederic Chiu among others.
