Founded in 1954, Lyric Opera of Chicago is one of the world's greatest opera companies. Anthony Freud, Lyric’s general director, began his tenure in 2011. Sir Andrew Davis has served as Lyric’s music director since 2000. In 2010, Renée Fleming became Lyric’s first creative consultant.

Christoph Willibald Gluck’s exquisite drama introduces us to Orpheus, the poet and musician whose every word and note communicate the most overwhelming love for his Eurydice. In this contemporary setting, Orphée the poet and musician is reimagined as a choreographer, and his beloved Eurydice is a ballerina. (7/18)

June's Summer Opera presentations begin with Mozart's Cosi fan tutte from the Lyric Opera of Chicago (6/6). Subtitled “The School for Lovers,” this beloved Mozart comedy is a probing look into romantic relationships. It starts out with a cynical philosopher’s bet that two beautiful young women can’t remain faithful to their fiancés for 24 hours. As the intrigue deepens, the young women’s affections—and those of the young men—move into a new place that’s risky and scary.
