The National Youth Orchestra of China performed on the campus of East Stroudsburg University where they were recorded for the May 27th episode of From the Top.  If you think that “youth orchestra” suggests less than virtuosity, you’d be sadly mistaken.  Plus, on May 13th, conductor Marin Alsop works with the National Youth Orchestra of the United States from Carnegie Hall.

5/6       From Berkeley, CA we hear violinist John Fawcett from Bend, OR; the Meraki Quartet from Berkeley; cellist Woojin Nam from San Ramon, CA; pianist Abigail Arkley from Bloomington MN and the Gunn High School Concert Choir from Palo Alto, CA.

5/13      This week features Marin Alsop and 120 of America’s best and brightest young musicians that have been brought together to form the National Youth Orchestra of the United States by the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall.

5/20      From San Francisco, CA we hear pianist Cameron Akioka from Palo Alto, CA; violinist Hannah Duncan from Belle Plaine, IA; violist Sophia Valenti from Santa Rosa, CA; guitarist Nicholas Padmanhaban from Palo Alto; and a composition by Alistair Coleman from Bethesda, MD performed by students from San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

5/27      This week’s From the Top features the premiere of the National Youth Orchestra of China during their summer residence at East Stroudsburg University.
