Louis Vierne: Messe Sollennelle, op 16
In this Performance Rochester presentation with First Inversion, you'll hear one of two French masses they undertook for this January 2018 performance, which also included motets by Maurice Durufle. Malcolm Matthews and Oliver Brett are the featured organists. The Mass is considered to be one of the highlights of the late Romantic sacred works.
First Inversion is happy to call Downtown Presbyterian Church its home. This historic downtown building offers stunning architecture, stained glass windows by Tiffany and Co., a world-class organ by Fisk, an elegant chancel area, and a pleasantly live acoustic.
Says founder and Artistic Director Lee Wright, "Driven by my deep commitment to community and collaboration, First Inversion brings together both professional and avocational singers from the Eastman School of Music and the larger community with the goal of true personal and musical growth for all through a focus on fearless and selfless musical expression. The name 'First Inversion' is inspired by the second chord in the opening tenor aria from Handel's Messiah, Comfort Ye. This particular chord—E Major in first inversion—has always charmed me."
